NewsSponsored Rider's Report - Leasa StephenTuesday 25 May 2010 April 2010
Hi All!
April was unsurprisingly busy! With Easter school hols meaning extra lessons, and the comp season starting to gather momentum.
I started off with Caboolture One Star Dressage, where I chose to take Cody and Morriarty...l I wanted an extra week of fitness for Galanthus, so chose to leave the big boy at home! This was Morry’s first open official competition. He placed 4th in the Prelim and 6th in the Novice. Was super to get him out amongst the official company! Very well behaved! The temperature was super, super hot and humid, and Cody had a bit of a melt down (his time was just before lunch), so I scratched him from his Medium rather than risk him getting heat stress. Luckily he recovered really well, and his training the next day was super, but I am glad I scratched him – it was just too humid to ride at that time!
Thursday the 15th May saw me making the trek up the range to compete in the breed classes of Toowoomba Royal Show with Morriarty. We had a ball, doing something a little different – Morry was beautifully behaved, gaining two 2nd places, a 4th and a 6th in the Friesian WB classes. He was a real crowd pleaser too, with heaps of non-horsey spectators coming up to give him a pat, and admire his super shiny black coat! (go the Pryde’s feed!!!).
Sunday the 18th May, I was MEANT to go to Nambour to compete in their one star dressage day. After my last super training rides on the Saturday and finishing washing both Cody and Galanthus in preparation (bright sunshine), I got a call from the organisers to say that Nambour is underwater due to a storm front, and the comp has been cancelled. Luckily, our local club, SEG allowed myself and four other displaced riders to come and contest the associated dressage with one horse each. So Galanthus and I went to SEG instead, and won both his Medium tests! Can’t wait for his next official start!
The following week was another fabulous clinic with QLD State Coach Carlos Decleermaecker. Cody and Gally both went amazing, and got some great exercises and tips on improving our overall way of going. This led quickly into a clinic I was teaching at home for my Interschool Team, Stuartholme – most of the team now feed the Pryde’s range of feed, and the improvement in their coats and muscle tone is amazing! This clinic was great fun, and lines the team up well for the Regional Interschool Champs the following week (next month’s report)!
So as you can see, April was just plain mad. I am HOPING that May is a little less hectic, but honestly – can’t guarantee it. Looking ahead is the Interschool Regional Champs at Beaudesert in early May, another coaching job with the Team at Laidley, the opening of the sand arenas comp at Samford, Toowoomba Two Star Dressage Champs.... plus the usual gamut of meeting for DQ and the Festival of Dressage! Mind you – I wouldn’t have it any other way!
Thanks again Pryde’s for giving my team of horses, and my client’s horses, a great well balanced feed to keep them at their peak! (Have you got anything for humans???)
