Breed(s)

Quarter Horses, a number of our horses carry the famous "Morn Deck" bloodlines. We have recently bred successfully to an imported barrel racing sire owned by Bek Knudsen of Taroom by the name of ‘Mojo’s Workin’. He carries the famous American bloodline of ‘Dash Ta Fame’.

Is your area a noted horse district?  If so give details:

Yes, some of the best rodeo competitors in the country live in Emerald.  For example 14times Australian All Round Champion Shane Kenny, Former Team Roping champions Grant Hanrahan and Brodie Moss.  Former Australian Barrel Racing and All Round Champion Bridget Brandenburg resides in Capella North of Emerald.

Special care and management considerations of your horse(s):

Conditioning through work and nutrition. Regular dental and massage care also play an important part. My husband Dale takes great care of their feet.

Name the most influential person in your riding career and why:

There have been a number of people that have had a huge impact on my chosen events. A good friend and former Australian Barrel Racing Champion and Record holder Bridget Brandenburg has helped me tremendously over the years.  There is also a great horseman by the name of Ray McGhee from whom I have gained valuable horsemanship knowledge and he fortunately lives in my home town of Emerald.   A couple of my other horsemanship idols are Ian Francis and Clinton Anderson.

Special highlight(s) in your riding career:

Breaking the Australian Barrel Racing record in 1994 and holding that for a period of 6 years.  I achieved this at the famous Mt Isa Rodeo aboard my great old horse ‘Wollombi Fabian” aka Trash.

Winning both the Australian Barrel Racing and Breakaway Roping Championships in 1995 for the Womens Professional Rodeo Association.

Being invited to travel to a Barrel Racing Farm in Qingdao, China in May 2014 to train barrel racing horses and their riders.

Having the chance to compete in a Cutting Event in Capella Qld in July 2014 on a very good mare called ‘Peptos Bonita Two’ owned by Kristine Holmes of Emerald.

Describe your first pony:

My first pony was approximately 12hh and Grey. She was purchased as a 3 year old when I was about 6 years old and we were as green as each other. I called her Jeanie.

Describe your riding history:

I was introduced to horses by my Mum and Dad.  Mum always wanted them as a child however she didn’t have the opportunity until she met my father.  Dad trained a few racehorses when I was younger and I would ride track work for him.

I grew up doing Pony Club, then some Campdrafting and finally got hooked on Rodeo with the sport of Barrel Racing and Breakaway Roping.

Do you have any hobbies/interests?

The majority of my time is taken up with the day to day business of taking care of the horses, the home and raising my children.  I am also interested in breaking and training our young horses and getting them ready for their futurity years.

Describe your most embarrassing (horse related) moment, if any:

Using my kids as an excuse for being distracted, I neglected to put the tailgate up on my horsefloat and drove about 5km along the highway.

Do you have any 'other' animals?

We have a number of cattle that we breed for both beef and roping.  We also have 2 dogs and 2 cats and of course the chooks.

What are your ambitions?

To be competitve at a national level for as long as possible and to help evolutionise the sport of Barrel Racing in Australia.

What do you require from your horse feed?

Cool, responsive energy - for the young upcoming futurity horses

High energy - for my rodeo competition horses

Balanced minerals and vitamins - yes

Energy for work, without excess calories - yes

Coat condition - yes

No fuss breeding feeds - yes

Specific young horse feeds - in foundation stage

Which Pryde's feeds do you use and why do you like them?

I use EasiPerformance and EasiResult for my rodeo competition horses.  These feeds are very palatable and the horses perform very well on them.   I have also started to add EasiPrep Concentrate when we have a larger workload for these horses to promote their topline and muscle conditioning.

I use EasiRide for all my young colts that are in work and EasiBioMare for my broodmares.

Have you trained or coached any riders who have had success?

I have a number of clinics throughout the year and I also hold private lessons during the week for a number of young riders.  Some of these students have gone on to win buckles and titles.  After my time training riders at a Barrel Racing stable in China they have reported a number of wins to me.

How will Pryde's Sponsorship make a difference to you?

It will help raise my profile in the equine industry and keep my equine partners in the best possible shape.

What do you think you can do to make a difference for Pryde's?

With my involvement in the Rodeo and Barrel Horse industries I see my commitment to Pryde's being a very worthwhile promotional avenue for the company.
