How to help make your horse soft and rideable: Part 2 with Ross Smith

Here, Ross Smith explains some Show jumping training exercises to help make your horse soft and rideable.

7 yr old Warmblood mare. Imported from Europe to be produced as an investment horse. Has just resumed competition having had 2 colic surgeries.

Our main focus is making her soft and very rideable. Hayley concentrating on upper body and staying very smooth have been things we have concentrated on in her riding.

What has worked:

Staying consistent with fitness and doing small exercises to help her get back in the ring.

Not pressuring the horse to the front rail is a very important part of her training. Being patient and letting her jump the fence out of scope has been vitally important in her early training.
